Astronomy Team

About the Team:

The Astronomy Team is one of the three teams that volunteers and interns can participate in as part of the Galaxy Explorers program.

It is the largest of all three teams and is the only one which does not hold meetings and activities exclusively on Saturdays, making it easy for team members to participate in team activities without interfering with regular Saturday floor hours or other Saturday Commitments (ie: sports, classes, etc).

Team activities include observing, lectures and presentations, astrophotography and telescope maintenance. We have meetings every Friday Night at 6pm, followed by observing when the weather is clear.

For more information email the Team.

Our Telescopes:

Our Primary telescope is Maya, a 16" Newtonian Reflector that we refurbished in 2003.

We also have several smaller "amateur " telescopes that we use, including a 10" and 8" Dobsonian Reflectors.

The Astronomy Team has also had experience working with Chabot's 36" Cassagrain Reflector, Nellie.

Team Leader/Captain: Sophie Lee
Team Advisor/Manager: Paul Hoy
